I had never seen Silver Linings Playbook before and I have to say that I found it to be quite entertaining. I think that after a close reading the movie is about the stigmas people have about those with mental illnesses. Usually people see a “crazy” person and they’re quick to judge them without ever really knowing what exactly made them go “crazy”. This movie shows the back story that most people don’t really ever care to pay attention to. I think that this film was pretty good, it emphasized the themes of family, repetition, and the functionalism of dysfunction. To start research on this film I would look up the rates and statistics for mental disorders to see how relevant the topic of this movie was at that time. Then like reading stated, maybe take a look at who created the film and see what that has to offer as far as analysis goes. Reading all the articles about this movie it made me think that maybe my resources should vary in their biases and opinions on the movie and the concept of mental illness.
